Step Right Up to a 4th of July Spectacular

As he’s grown in size, so has our party.  Mostly we have kept the gathering casual – no themes or planned games. But because our son and his cousins won’t stop growing despite our desire to keep them young forever, we realized we won’t have many more parties where everyone will be able to attend. From that sad thought came the Carnival Spectacular.

There’s something about the chaos of a carnival that makes me happy. Kids laughing. Food everywhere. Carefree shenanigans. The perfect setting for some Fourth of July fun! After trolling Pinterest, we discovered some ideas that would help transform our backyard to a Midway of sorts without us having to spend a ton of money.

Dog Treat Bar

Dog treat bar, dog treats, treat jarVisiting our local pet store one day, my son and I started picking out treats for our dog. It was treats by the bulk. Scoop anything and everything into one bag, weigh it, and pay it. But  when we got home, we wondered…what if the flavor of the peanut butter treats takes over the mint bones meant to freshen breath? And what about those chicken chunks mixed with the cinnamon snacks? If they were all meant to “live” together, then why separate them at the pet store? That’s when the idea of a treat bar came to mind. It’s like a little candy store for fur babies.

When One Door Closes, Use it as a Desk

My living room never had anything living in it. It had a couple of chairs, love seats, book cases and a beautiful, cherry wood buffet. But barely anyone saw all of that because the room was never used. It was wasted space. In the mean time, my husband and I kept moving the office around the house. We tried the basement, but it lacked a window and the set up in the corner felt more like punishment than a place to be productive. So we moved the office to a spare bedroom on the second floor. But then we never saw our son during his marathon Minecraft adventures. We just couldn’t find a spot that seemed suited for an office. Until…
